Technical Report Format for 1) Give it a title. There are no independent or dependent variables as this was a survey to characterize the community. 2)
Your name, your partners’ names, the date, the location
(forest near 3) Introduction: You will not write a true introduction. I do not expect you to research different types of forests. I would like you to explain how communities fit into ecosystems (what are ecosystems?), community composition (what makes up a community?), hydrology as a forcing function. All of this information could be gotten from your lecture notes. Forcing function is not in your text; the rest is. 4) Method: What did you do and what materials were required? List out terminology-FAC, FACU, FACW, OBL…. as explained in lecture with reference to wetlands. Sample calculations for all values calculated. You can certainly use your real numbers in your result section to make this easier and cogent. 5) Results: The temperatures of the air and soil; the weather for that day at that time of day. All your data and all your calculations go here. ALSO, here you should discuss what these numbers indicate to you in terms of community structure and type of community and how it is (is not) affected by hydrology. USE the questions in your lab handout to help direct your thoughts. Include your observations to support your numbers. 6) Conclusions: A cohesive description of your community based on your results. “The community is an upland forest community that has as it’s most important tree ….. This is a survey. You didn’t believe (or ever believe when you are setting up and running an experiment or survey) or support (because one shot deals cannot prove anything) anything because there is no hypothesis. You are simply characterizing the community.
